Find out from us what was important in 3D printing in 2019
As another year draws to a close, it’s time to take a look back. So today we want to take a closer look at the developments and innovations that were current in the world of 3D printing in 2019.
Read here what was important in 2019 in 3D printing.
What’s new at CES 2019
From 3D printers to cosmetics
The first event relevant to the 3D printing world was of course the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas again in 2019, from January 8th to 11th.
On this occasion, the company XYZprinting presented the Da Vinci mini Color, a FDM desktop color printer. This has a build volume of 130 x 130 x 130 mm and should also offer smaller companies (as well as schools, designers, etc.) access to full-color printing.
The provider Formlabs presented an innovation in the field of stereolithography. The focus was on elastic resins, which are particularly suitable for dentures and other digital applications. After all, these are objects that need to be bent and stretched.
The cosmetics manufacturer Neutrogena used CES 2019 to present MaskiD, a tailor-made skin care mask that was developed using a 3D face scanner and then manufactured on a 3D printer. The goal: to offer every customer a mask that adapts to the desired treatment and the properties of their skin.
Metal 3D printing at HAW Landshut
Lively interest in practice forum
The 6th practice forum took place on October 22, 2019 at the Landshut University of Applied Sciences under the heading “3D metal printing – from component optimization to the finished product”. The current developments in metal 3D printing were presented. Specifically, the focus was on selective laser melting (also called SLM printing) and electron beam melting. At the same time, methods such as metal powder injection molding or powder injection molding were presented. Cases were also discussed in which injection molding production can be replaced by 3D printing using the FDM process.
The software provider Altair Engineering presented a solution for topology optimization in Landshut.
Highlights of Formnext 2019
We already reported to you about this year’s Formnext (November 19-22, 2019, Frankfurt am Main) in a separate blog post. We can also add that Formnext itself received the m + a Award in the “Newcomer” category at the beginning of December 2019. The development of exhibitor numbers, visitor numbers and sales area since the debut of Formnext in November 2015 were decisive for this award.
