Part 4: 3 bike frames, awards, 3D selfies – 3 stories from 3 countries

In the fourth part of our series, we would like to introduce you to 3 projects that we were able to implement in 3 different countries. Of course, these are the 3 countries of the DACH region.

Let’s go to Switzerland first.

200 years of bicycles – our contribution from the 3D printer

In 2017 we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the bicycle. Finally, in 1817, Karl von Drais developed the original bicycle model, the draisine. The magazine “Einstein” of the Swiss TV broadcaster SRF1 took this anniversary as an opportunity to draw a line from the history to the future of the bicycle. The original model by Karl von Drais was compared with Nino Schurter’s Olympic champion bike from Rio, 2016, under the title “Draisine versus Olympic champion bike”.

However, “Einstein” also took a look at the future of cycling. On this occasion, the magazine presented a 3D printed bicycle. We had just made this bike on behalf of the Swiss bike supplier Thömus.

This “Einstein” post was sent on June 8, 2017, between 10:25 p.m. and 11:05 p.m.

And now on to Austria.

The Mozart Prize of the City of Vienna

Also in June 2017, the City of Vienna awarded the “Viennese Mozart Prize for Enlightenment and New Ideas” for the first time. Its first presentation took place on June 21, 2017, in the historical baroque vault of the Bösendorfer Hall in the Mozarthaus Vienna. This is a museum of Wien Holding. The award went to the renowned pianist Rudolf Buchbinder.

The Wiener Silbermanufaktur was responsible for the production of the award. On their behalf, we produced the award in 3D printing, made of brass. The subsequent silver finishing was carried out by the Viennese silver manufactory itself. The idea for the design of the award goes back to the Viennese architect Gregor Eichinger.

The ORF2 magazine “Seitenblicke” reported on this award ceremony in its June 22, 2017 edition between 8:05 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.

Our third 3D printing project takes us to Germany, namely to our German headquarters in Wiesbaden.

3D selfies made of polymer plaster

Our 3D printing project, which we were able to implement in cooperation with the Wiesbaden company PRINTYOURSELF in 2014, also made it onto television. It was a production of 3D selfies. The ColorJet printing process was used here, with polymer plaster.

SWR television reported on this 3D selfie project in its regional magazine “Landesart”. In this context, “Landesart” reporter Ariane Binder conducted an interview with our managing director Fabian Strohschein on December 22, 2014, which you can read here.
