What is IFTTT?
If you’re not familiar with IFTTT, here’s a quick explainer. IFTTT (If This, Then That) is a service that gives you the ability to create Applets (formerly recipes) that use a trigger to force a specific action. If something is on the internet (or even just internet connected — hello, Internet of Things!), you can IFTTT it. But let’s focus on one really easy Applet: RSS to email.
Note: You will have to create an IFTTT account to get set up.
AutoCAD + IFTTT
So, you have your shiny new (or awesome vintage) IFTTT account ready to go. What comes next? It’s easy; in fact, I did it in under 30 seconds!
First, you have to create your new Applet. You can do this by selecting New Applet from the profile dropdown in the upper right-hand corner, or by going to My Applets > New Applet.
Important: Copy this url, because you’ll need it to set up the Applet.
On the next screen, click +this, and then select RSS from the options below. Next, choose New feed item and paste in the AutoCAD forum RSS link provided just above, and click Create Trigger.
Now, click +that, and select Email from the options below. You’ll get only one option (Send me an email), so click that. On the next screen, simply hit Create action.
On the (what I promise is the last) screen, you can retitle the Applet to whatever is most helpful for you! Just select what’s in there, delete, and type away (within 140 characters). Then hit Finish.
Think it seems like a lot of work? Check out the 25-second video below for proof that it’s easy:
