Customizing Rollover Tooltips
Rollover tooltips make it easy to quickly check the properties of an object without even having to first select the object.
For example, when you move the cursor over the circle, the object highlights and you also see a rollover tooltip that shows you the type of object as well as its general properties, such as color, layer, and linetype. When you move the cursor over the arc, you again see a tooltip that shows you the type of object along with its color, layer, and linetype. The same type of information appears when you move the cursor over the line.
If, when you see the information in the tooltip, you decide that you need to modify the object, you would then need to select it and then use some other tool, such as the Properties palette.
You can customize the rollover tooltip so that it displays additional information.
To customize the rollover tooltips, on the Manage ribbon, in the Customization panel, click the User Interface tool to open the Customize User Interface, or CUI dialog. Then, in the Customizations In pane in the upper-left, select Rollover Tooltips.
The Dynamic Display pane changes to show a list of the properties currently displayed for the rollover tooltips. To change which properties display for all objects, change them in the General list first. For example, suppose you want to include the linetype scale in the rollover tooltip that displays for all objects. In the General list, select the Linetype scale checkbox and then click the Reset Overrides button.
Then, suppose you want the radius of the circle to display in the rollover tooltip for circles. In the list on the left, select Circle. Then, in the list on the right, under Geometry, select the Radius checkbox.
To include the length of a line in the rollover tooltip for lines, in the list on the left, select Line. Then, in the list on the right, under Geometry, select the Length checkbox.
Once you are done making changes, click OK to save your changes and close the CUI.
Now, when you move the cursor over the circle, in addition to showing the type of object along with its color, layer, and linetype, the rollover tooltip also includes the linetype scale and radius of the circle. When you move the cursor over the line, in addition to the object type, color, layer, and linetype the rollover tooltip includes the linetype scale and the length of the line. And when you move the cursor over the arc, the rollover tooltip displays the object type along with the color, layer, linetype, and linetype scale.
