Cinema 4D helps the filming of A Colorful Dream

Graphic designer, animator, storyteller and exhibition artist, Mark Patch is driven by a creative fascination for patterns and a love of work that “captivates the soul of the human being”. His latest project, “A Colorful Dream”, is a full-scale animated feature film that is part of the Van Gough multi-screen immersive experience recently opened at LUME Melbourne.

A 2,000 square foot permanent immersive gallery equipped with 150 projectors, THE LUME is designed to give visitors the feeling of being part of the work of art that surrounds them. Patch’s “A Colorful Dream” was created by combining Cinema 4D, After Effects, X-Particles, RealFlow, Cycles 4D and Redshift.

Patch found his way into installations work after a career as an art director and artist in 2D, 3D and VFX. After moving from the United States to Australia, he worked as Creative Director and Lead Animator for Grande Experiences and as Lead Artist at 77 Productions. Its clients include: Imagination, McCann, Airbag, Method Studios, Federation Square, Sydney Opera House, Telstra and Mecca Cosmetics.

Now based in Florida, he works under his artist name, Akult, focusing on exhibition and installation media, and finding time to create NFT artwork. We caught up with Patch to ask him questions about his Van Gogh-inspired installation. Here is what he had to say.
