What is a cell in MicroStation?

Any cell can be easily recalled and placed, and then manipulated as a single element within MicroStation. Cells reduce repetitive drawing and encourage standardization.
If you have already placed the cell, you can key-in the command DROP SHARECELL. The system will prompt you Convert Shared cell to Unshared Cell > Identify element. Once you have selected the element you can now edit the text within the cell.
MicroStation shared cells are similar to AutoCAD blocks. A shared cell is a cell whose elements are stored only once in the DGN file, regardless of how often the cell is placed within the DGN file. Any change made to one instance of a shared cell reflects in all instances of that shared cell.
